About Soft Pastel...Paintings rendered in the medium of soft pastel have been around for centuries.  Pure pigments are ground, mixed with a binder and formed into painting sticks.  The medium is dry, unlike paint.  However, it is equally permanent if properly cared for.

Care...Pastel paintings are slightly fragile because they are most often painted on paper and have a chalk-like surface.  They should be stored flat, out of direct sunlight and in an acid-free paper or box until framed.

Framing...Pastel paintings must be framed under glass for protection of the delicate surface.  While framing a pastel it is important to keep the surface of the painting away from the glass.  Use an acid-free mat or a spacer between artwork and glass.
