Portrait Commission Process

Dear Portrait Seeker,

Thank you for your interest in my artwork and my process for painting a commissioned portrait. I work in gouache (water-based opaque paint) and pastels in a mixed media technique, although, most of what you see in a finished painting is the texture and richness of the soft pastels. When you come to me as an interested portrait seeker we will discuss your needs and evaluate many things. For example, if the subject of the portrait is a child you may choose:

  • a formal or informal pose - indoors or out
  • all dressed up for a special occasion or casually barefoot in the grass
  • a head and shoulders pose or a full figure which may include a pet or particular background
  • a retrospective of your child at an earlier age

If there is more than one subject in the portrait will they be in one painting together or in separate paintings that may hang together down the wall? There is much to consider when making choices for this great investment to be enjoyed for generations to come. But, once the decisions are made the real excitement begins as the portrait painting evolves into a timeless keepsake.

There is an agreement which artist and client complete together which includes all decisions made regarding the commission of the painting including fee structure and completion date. During the painting process I will keep you updated to make sure we share the same vision for the completed portrait.

Simple as that.

Contact me by phone, or email to schedule an appointment. I look forward to a rewarding experience for you as we bring your painting to life!
